…and the award goes to… Mike Sherlock and Maria Leasca!

The Mt. Washington Preservation Trust is pleased to announce the first Gunther Wertheimer Exemplary Service Award recipients. Presented on December 10, 2023, at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch, the Mt. Washington Preservation Trust Board of Directors, along with more than 25 of our dedicated volunteers, were thrilled to present the Gunther Wertheimer Exemplary Service Award to Dr. Michael Sherlock, Chair of the Community Garden and Volunteer committee, and Maria Leasca, Treasurer.  Both Mike and Maria have served the Mt. Washington community in their roles for more than 20 years with the Trust.

Named in honor of the Trust’s founder, Gunther Wertheimer, the award was given in recognition of Mike and Maria’s diverse contributions and outstanding, exemplary service to our community. This is the first time this award was given. The awards were presented by Gunther’s daughters and residents of Mt. Washington, Debra and Pelle Wertheimer.

The Gunther Wertheimer Exemplary Service Award recognizes volunteers in the Mt. Washington community whose Leadership, Dedication, Legacy of Service and Commitment to Preservation is appreciated beyond measure, sets an example for leadership, and whose community stewardship will continue to benefit Mt. Washington for many years to come.

Through this distinguished service award, the Mt. Washington Preservation Trust Board of Directors expresses their deep gratitude to Mike and Maria for your dedication to deepening the mission of the Preservation Trust, strengthening connections between neighbors, and improving the sylvan neighborhood we all enjoy and call home.

Congratulations Mike and Maria!

Maria felt the love as Debra and Pelle Wertheimer handed out the awards.

Mike Sherlock shows off the hardware (while wondering to himself when he will be able to get back outside to plant something)
