Community Gardening Opportunities
For a number of years, the Trust has had a vigorous Community Gardening Programs to enhance the neighborhood through the planting of gardens on public parcels of land. Volunteers continue to design, plant and maintain gardens on median strips, intersection islands, and a number of extended roadside greenways. A drive through the neighborhood will reveal how successful this program has been, and how much these efforts have added to the desirability of living in Mount Washington.
To date, the MWPT has planted and maintained over 40 public gardens in Mount Washington, and it does so with the largest volunteer effort of its kind in the greater Baltimore area. The largest of these gardens, the Mount Washington Arboretum, is open to the public for all to enjoy from sunrise to sunset. Next to the arboretum, is MWPT’s Vegetable Garden.
For specific information about community beautification gardening, please refer to the Volunteer Schedule or contact Mike Sherlock at 410-215-9527.
For specific information about the vegetable garden, please email Tim Kearley.
Tax-deductible contributions to the Trust’s Gardening Program, from both neighbors and area foundations, are used to purchase plant material and supplies. Thanks for lending a hand and making Mount Washington beautiful!
