Watershed Protection

Western Run is our connection to the Jones Falls Watershed, the Chesapeake Bay, and the ocean. We protect our waterway. We all live downstream. It is up to each community to steward and be a guardian of their part of water. We are all connected through water. Without water, life cannot survive and will fade away.

MWPT plays a key part in sustaining the health of our terrestrial and watershed ecosystems through our stewardship of gardens and land surrounding Western Run, a smaller tributary to the Jones Falls watershed. The water that runs off and through Mount Washington collects in Western Run. We champion green acts to keep our waterway clear of pollutants. We advocate the use of natural landscapes without the use of fertilizers and herbicides to help keep chemicals out of our waterways.

Western Run travels along the new bike path, and right past the Arboretum. Keeping our land natural and green with plantings that help create permeable areas, helps to filter water before it goes to the Bay. We appreciate our partnership with our neighbors to keep our water clean.
